Founded in 2000, this all girls competitive league was started to give area elementary school aged girls a winter league to play basketball in.  After having our own daughters participate in several area leagues, we have taken the positive things from those leagues and incorporated them into the PBL.  At the same time, we have done our best to eliminate what we saw as negatives from those same leagues.  As we enter our seventh season the PBL continues to grow and we will do our best to continue to  maintain a great and fun league for the girls.

We do everything in our power to assure that our teams are equal and balanced in talent.  Following our skills day, each volunteer coach drafts a team that consists of girls from all grade groups as well as several different schools.  This should allow the girls to play on a competitive team and also to make new friends from other schools.  Please keep in mind this is
NOT an instructional or recreational league.  We will not be able to make your daughter the next Michael Jordan.  We are a competitive league that provides her the opportunity to get better by playing against some pretty good competition.

Early in December  we will have a skills day to assess each players ability.  On that same day we will hold our draft and practices should commence shortly thereafter.  Our regular season will begin in January and run through February.  All regular season games will be played on Sunday afternoons in the Williamstown Elementary School gymnasium.  We have a reputation for running our games on time and having qualified officiating.  The regular season games are held as a preparation for the season ending tournament.  The only thing the regular season record counts towards is tournament seeding.  There is no regular season champion.

Upon conclusion of the regular season a year-end tournament will be held.  The tourney is a double elimination event concluding with a champion and runner-up team.  Individual trophies are awarded for all players on the first and second place teams.  Also, an all-tournament team is chosen and presented trophies.

During the regular season several statistics are kept and posted on the league website.  These stats are kept each year with the top all-time record holders being listed on the website too.  Each week the box scores from the games are submitted to the local area newspapers for publication.  A "player of the week" award will be given each week with the chosen player receiving an award and a place of honor on our website.

Also during the regular season you should expect your daughter to receive equal playing time with her teammates.  Her team will be restricted to a maximum of 2 hours per week practice.  During preseason and tournament week there is no practice time limit.

Our hope is that 2006 is once again a success for our league.  Above all, we want the girls to have fun and at the same time make some new friends and hone their basketball skills.  If you have any questions please feel free to
e-mail us the website.  We are always open to suggestions.
